*Disclaimer: The examples stated in this are not stated to pinpoint people in my life that do such things and are making unnecessary comments about me or others in general. They are just examples, and are just some things I thought of when thinking of expensive hobbies or common pastimes. This is also not a malignant post, and just simply an observation of things that have and have not occurred.
In general, I'm not a person who really cares about anyone's opinions about me, my dressing, my ideals, my thoughts because I choose to live by my principles (which is pretty morally right in most ways and I am really considered super "safe"). I do find it extremely offensive when people who are acquainted with me (closely or not too closely) make comments about me to others, rather than directly to me. They say I have become wayward, or I "spend so much money" or I shop a lot or I keep changing styles or I look heck-care or I look like a slacker.
To me, it is as simple as it is. You and I, we have our 'vices' and little things that we really can't resist. You may love comic books and Marvel, and may buy every issue of whatever comic/magazine featuring Marvel superheroes even if it is just here and there. I may love to buy stuff to wear, and shop and dress up even if it means spending almost $200 in a day (just one day in a month, come on.) You may love to spend money on beefing up your camera kit, adding an external flash unit, a pretty sling bag and camera casing, and getting a tripod to shoot with. I may love to buy gadgets or crave getting them, e.g. tablets, iPads, mp3 players, Apple products. You may love to spend your money on buying ASOS every single week. I may love to spend most of my time using the computer and just researching on random stuff from when is my favourite blogshop's next update, to how awesome Adobe CS6 is, to downloading free Photoshop brushes, and etc.
So who are you to say I e.g. spend too much or I have too many clothes to wear or I am using my "parents' money" wastefully? Just for the record, I haven't been taking allowance since September 2011 and I am a full-time student, and at this point also working.
Different people have different ways of spending their money, saving their money, or basically just planning their finances. If someone plans 30% of their money to be on shopping, another 10% to save, another 10% for tithes, another 10% for food... etc, what really is the big deal? For e.g. I spend 40% of my money on shoes instead, and cut down 5% on food and 5% on savings, what again really is such a big deal?
I think strangers or people who think themselves acquaintances of a certain someone should not judge that someone so quickly. Look at your own spending, look at your own life. Are you hiding a secret that no one can know? Are you suffering from an anger-management problem? Are you a judgmental person by nature? Are you cheating on someone? Are you shallow? If you always take a look at your own life and the canvas you painted, I think you would be ashamed to say all that about me or any other person. You know yourself best. You also know whether certain comments are even necessary to make.
I joke a lot about a lot of things and people but I don't mean them maliciously but rather just to get a little laugh out of it. I also have a high tolerance level for rude/inappropriate people because I've been around cruel humour all my life. (I won't lie about it, but I do find it funny at times. It really is.) Life's that simple. But sometimes for people like these, I feel that this judgmental madness has to stop.
You ask me why I always look like I don't give a damn? That's because I really don't. I am not ignorant, I just choose not to focus on the little things that make up the many 'you's (referring to people in general). It doesn't matter if you're a guy who likes to wear pink, or you're a girl who likes to dress like a boy and have your hair cut short.
Live simply, live happy. Don't judge.
