Happy Mookata

This semester break, I made a list of stuff that I really wanted to do/see during the period.

One of the things I've now checked off is "Eating Mookata"!

Mookata is basically Thai traditional barbecue, and the novelty of it is frying your food with no butter or margarine and just pork lard. The pork lard's those white cubes at the centre that look like chinese carrot cake before they are cooked. I know the word "lard" makes everything gross, but to be fair, if you really break down your most favourite food and what it's really made of, it'll probably be gross too.

Steps to eating Mookata:
1. Place lard on top of the pan. (It functions like butter/margarine in a teppanyaki meal)
2. Let it melt and it will inadvertently flow down the grooves.
3. Get cooking and fry your stuff, and there!

Well anyway, another thing novel about it is that you cook everything atop this metal Sombrero.

A real sombrero (Mexican hat):

Imagine cooking on this sombrero.

We got there really early at 5.30pm, so Happy Mookata wasn't open yet. They open at 6pm, so if you're popping by for a meal, please don't go so early. Staff members were really nice though. They let us sit there and wait while they busied around setting up tables and arranging cutlery. The staff member also continually reminded us "Just wait a few minutes more ok? We are preparing the food for you now.", which was quite nice of him. With that said, we weren't feeling impatient or annoyed, but the staff member was so apologetic, that we felt so bad for turning up half hour earlier than opening time. Haha.

Some of the stuff we ordered: Different marinates of chicken, pork and beef dishes such as black pepper or garlic onion, lots of vegetables and other typical steamboat stuff.

Getting started!

Here's how Mookata looks when most of the stuff are cooked.

Happy Mookata provides a really sweet corn soup for cooking. Like some miracle soup, it made everything in it taste wonderful! The thai chilli dip in the photo above was also really good.

And there, we devoured it all. Haha.

Wondering where the pork lard went?

We ate it.

Well, YOLO.

(It tastes just like the fat on your beef steak... So it is actually quite yummy heh.)
