Pasta Brava

Where we had our 28th month dinner. Just to be clear, we're not crazy over counting months together. We admit it is pretty lame (especially if it's past the first year), but I suppose we look for excuses to enjoy good food with each other. Hahaha, cos it only seems appropriate to spoil ourselves with good food when there is an OCCASION. So there, we find occasions so we can spoil ourselves ye? Ye.

A pretty homely-looking place at Tanjong Pagar. Here's how it looks from the outside.

Counter area.

One thing that surprised me here was the chalk provided at every table. Apparently the chalk is for you to draw all over the table (um...) I don't know if they were trying to be a high-end Graffiti Cafe but ARE YOU FOR REAL? Honestly having chalk near my food was distasteful enough, but I'm not complaining since I didn't touch it.

The table beside us (people aged 20+) were going all out and drawing all kinds of crap on the table cloth. Hahaha. Not that there's anything wrong... but chalk and the powder it produces when you scribble... and italian food, totally doesn't go together, and please it's unhygienic.

If you don't know what is Graffiti Cafe, here's a picture. This is the 'cafe' that serves Pontian Wanton Noodles and other food stuff where you can use whatever stationery you have to vandalise the tables and chairs. Possibly the only place you can openly and legally vandalise the shit out of public property. Haha, target market, of course, errant young children, tweens, teenagers. I'd say it was successful, even though the place did look kinda filthy after all that scribbling. Haha. I haven't wrote anything... because when it was launched - I was already of a certain age that I didn't crave to do stuff like that, scribble my identity on stuff and scribble stuff like "Louisa was here! HELLO.". Perhaps if I were 12 and my parents/siblings brought me to such a place, I would've gone all out. Haha.

Bread served, as usual.

Here's my dinner: Agnolotti Farciti Al Salmone
Ignoring the ultimately profound dish name which no one understands... (other than the Italian or the waiter/waitresses who memorized it...) It's simply round-shaped pasta filled with fresh salmon served with tomato and cream sauce. Haha. Basically it's ravioli, but I doubt many know what ravioli really is. I didn't know until last year. Haha!

When you look at ravioli, they always look pathetic - servings always look smaller than other spaghetti/pasta dishes. Well, you'd be thankful for that. Ravioli is super filling and usually come in such servings (above), like 10-12 pieces of those pasta blobs. Ravioli is like... chinese mee hoon kway. Haha. Imagine 2 mee hoon kway pieces stuck together and within it contains some sort of meat, either salmon (in this case) or minced beef.

Just for the record, I AM A HUGE FAN OF RAVIOLI. I adore ravioli so much, if any menu has ravioli on it, I'd definitely just choose it without looking at the rest of the menu. Haha. (I did pick the ravioli with minced beef immediately without thought, however the waiter warned me that the dish is made with blue cheese - basically some super stinky cheese also known as gorgonzola cheese - and I changed my order to salmon ravioli.)

J's dinner: Fettuccine Ala Carbonara
Fettuccine with bacon, onion, egg yolk, white wine, cream sauce.

To simplify things, Fettuccine is like chinese ban mian. Haha. This dish was light, and not so overwhelming as most creamy European food are. One of the better Carbonaras I have tried. At least it's one that I didn't feel like throwing up after finishing half of it. You know how cream-based pastas/spaghetti can always make one pretty sick and full after half of it. The cream sauce wasn't too thick or heavy.

Dessert: Torta Di Mele Al Mascarpone
Italian version of apple pie with mascarpone cheese, served with vanilla ice-cream

Satisfactory dessert. Haha. Due to a certain mistake, we enjoyed the dessert for free so of course, no complaints for something we got for free. The apple pie was pretty good.

All in all, we enjoyed the dinner and the time spent together. Haha I'll always enjoy anything that has ravioli or JS so I suppose that's a moot point. ;)
