High Tea at Hyatt.

Finally got the opportunity to meet up with my sister who just gave birth recently! Currently, Eleanor ('Elly' for short) is barely 1.5 months old, which basically means she's not much fun and is easily characterized by standard newborn baby behaviour like constant hunger, crying, and soiled diapers... but I can't wait to see what she'll grow up to be like in the next few months!

Will she be a cranky baby, a lively baby or what? Haha it's kinda fascinating seeing how parents DNA mix up together to birth some kid with a combination of both parents' qualities! As of now, we can already see some traits that seem like daddy, and some like mummy, physical or behavioural. So observing the kid can be quite amusing too...

My goodness, I sound like I'm cooing already. Haha yuck.

So anyway, the confinement period cooped the sister up in her place for 30 days so that left us no chance to go out together. I wonder if Westerners also have confinement periods like ours... If they don't, then does it mean the Chinese confinement period is unnecessary?

(Check out my goblin sister in the picture... With her army green nursing cover)

If you're interested in the menu (and the various names of these complicated dishes above), click HERE under the "Afternoon Tea" section.

10 Scotts has great service, possibly so good that it was kinda stifling (for me), but generally the staff were friendly. I think one or two of them thought I was too young to be there and kinda had that dismissive look about them when they came over to ask me if I wanted tea first... so that didn't feel too welcoming. (I said no because I wanted to wait for my sister to arrive then order together).

Above is the starter tray they provided us with. Great quality tasted in every piece. My sister made me the tester of any strange-looking dishes... Some were not to my liking, while some were great. The salmon sandwich (upper tier) is really good! Room temperature salmon but not fishy at all... Amazing freshness.

After that, you can ask the waitress to restock on the stuff that you like on the tray and not restock the stuff that you dislike... Also, you have another buffet-style area where you can select cakes and scones and other pastries and fruits by yourself.

All the dishes on the lower tier were generally really tasty and very asian, such as the popiah, crab cake in remoulade sauce and the curry puff. The bottom left one (green and brown unidentified balls) were not something to rave about though... They seemed overloaded with wasabi so I was abit wary about putting it in my mouth... haha, but there wasn't much of a wasabi taste. If you ask me to put a taste to it, I'd say it tasted like a western-version of a ngo hiang hahaha.

Overall, a great place to hang out with girlfriends. Quiet atmosphere, and waitresses and chefs quietly shuffling about serving people. Tables were decently placed and not too close to each other. (My table was rather close to an obnoxious lady patron beside us though... But we had a view of the man-made waterfall so I guess that balances it out.)

One thing I didn't like was the short duration. The menu gave the appearance of the high tea buffet lasting from 12-5pm but there are actually 2 seatings, 12pm - 2.30pm and 3-5pm. We went for the second seating from 3-5pm so we didn't have much time to eat and the starter tray itself took 20 minutes just to get to our table... Which means we only started eating at 4pm (my sister arrived late at 3.30pm because she was nursing).

How much can you eat in an hour, buffet-style? Haha...

Ending off, here's a picture of my sister, The Hunchback of Notre Dame if you like.

Disclaimer: Please don't laugh at her for misusing the nursing cover... Hahaha. She doesn't put her head in the nursing cover all the time... Eleanor was crying so she had to get her face in to soothe her, and I thought this would make a hilarious picture so, there!
