S.E.A. Aquarium

We're a couple who counts their "anniversaries" occasionally by months. Generally we are two people who frowns upon counting by months (because it is completely juvenile), but somehow, we always look for a reason to justify a date-day or a activity-day when we set out to visit some national monument/tourist spot - so that's where the "Hey it's our XXth month!" reason comes about.

Anyway this is the 33rd month, so we head off to RWS Southeast Asia (S.E.A.) Aquarium!

Heading out together

The Maritime Experiential Museum is really quite interesting. It documents Singapore's maritime history. So if you're into stuff like that, do check it out and read every exhibit!

I love the vibrant colour of the hanging decorations!

To be honest, because this is the entrance of the Aquarium (you have to go through this one and only route), there were so many people rushing to get pictures with any and everything that I had to photograph this with two strangers in it. (There was a queue for this exhibit!) So that explains the blurred out faces, because that obviously is not me, hahaha.

We were dumbfounded because there were so many tourists and other unpleasant pushy-shovey people who kept jostling and elbowing other people... It was a Monday!

Ancient tea sets, and very pretty fabrics.
'Floating boats' between two floors!
I loved the creative design of the boats, put together around the huge life-sized replica of an Asian sailing vessel. Every boat looked like a work of art!

Digging around the basket, and we found no fake snake. -_- Haha.
The camel is very furry like a stuffed toy!
On non-peak days, the Typhoon Theatre is apparently free for admission so we got in for free, but on peak days, you'll have to pay $10 to enjoy the experience. Well the verdict - it is very worth the ten bucks!

Got the operator to help us take a photo, and this was all he could manage... Haha.
The Typhoon Theatre features some sort of 4D multimedia experience and it was really quite awesome and fantastic. The total shock comes at the end, when you realise, the theatre had descended into the basement where the aquarium is. A definite must-see experience. I have a fear of thunderstorms, so the typhoon theatre can be considered mildly horrifying for me, but it was a really well-done presentation with very surprisingly good acting skills from the recorded cast.

Very Noah's Ark right?

The glass tunnel here looks extremely filthy, but it is not. Haha. The green-ness of the entire place however, makes human photo-taking quite unenjoyable, as every picture looks like you are sick and about to puke.

Here, fishy, fishy, fishy.
Pipe fish. Looks like bigger versions of ikan bilis haha!

Shark Eggs! This exhibit had so many people around it, we just had to take a look.

The great inspiration behind the villain (Davy Jones) of The Pirates of The Caribbean I think.
Seems legit.
Fishes who don't give a care in the world, suspended at the surface, and really not moving at all.

Had to take 30 over shots just to get these few shots of the dolphins! Definitely worth the visit cos they're so friendly, and seem to like approaching the glass for humans to photograph them. With that said, they do swim very, very fast, so you'll need burst-shots to really get good pictures of them.

Ugh.

Mandatory shot with the aquarium even though you can't see our faces. Haha.

Hammerhead Shark
Sharks... everywhere...

Haha. Necessary shots with the mannequins.

As all Chinese mostly are, they are superstitious, and hence no one approached or even went near to this exhibit. There was a literal 3-metre radius around it. Haha...

I was particularly interested in this exhibit, even though the fake-dead-guy did look quite horrifying and menacing. I really wondered why they decided to end off the museum with this exhibit (just before the merchandise store) cos in my opinion, superstitious people would remember this and find it an unpleasant memory of the S.E.A Aquarium. Haha.

Well, all in all, the amount of money pumped into this establishment is definitely a huge sum of money because everything was pretty much perfect, and very, very detailed. As a Singaporean, there is a certain degree of pride I have in our tourist attractions, especially this one.

I can't wait to check out Universal Studios Singapore!

Yes, I haven't been there. -_-
