Think we've come to the conclusion that there is not very much to do in Singapore without burning a huge hole in our right pockets... Cafe-hopping has become the new go-to activity every time we want to 'date', and even that isn't that friendly on our pockets.
But of course, I never mind splurging with good company. :)
Checked out Sunday Market last Sunday, a cafe that is decently near my place (a few bus stops away). Possibly somewhere I'll return to, simply because it's quiet, not very crowded, and tucked in the last place you'll find a cafe - next to some interior design shop and some unassuming hardware stores. The food is decent, and the menu has more unique offerings like asian fusion western brunch, so that's pretty cool in itself.
Proof of their quirky menu items - check out that Sirloin Rendang Toast!
One-half of the cafe. It seems like a bicycle hung on a wall must be a standard requirement for all cafes now. Seriously, that's a piece of transportation... Haha.
An unexpectedly good Iced Matcha Latte (S$7.00++) that is way better than Nana's Green Tea's green tea drinks, which are a bit on the bitter side, even though still great on the tastebuds. I mean, for a place that prides itself on its green tea, it certainly doesn't live up to its name.
Fried Chicken Waffles (S$11.90++)
Crispy fried chicken tenders with chipotle maple drizzle, sweet & creamy slaw.
Okay, my honest opinion? Don't come here for the waffles. The waffle looks tough in the photos, and well, it felt and tasted exactly as it looked. Haha jabbed it with my fingers and thought I'd touched a rock... With that said, the chicken tenders were really tender, juicy and yummy. The maple syrup - practically just 5 teeny, tiny drops of maple syrup, surely not enough to call it even a drizzle, hahaha.
Because I like the place quite a bit, I will lay off making fun of the rock-hard waffles. Since the next dish makes up nicely for it...
Roasted Duck with Garlic Hoisin Crispy Eggs (S$12.90++)
Savoury pancakes with roasted duck, mixed cress & drizzle of garlic hoisin.
Despite the failed waffle, this dish more than made up for the disappointment. I love most western(ised) duck dishes and these pancakes were delicious! The hoisin sauce was perfect, and the crispy eggs gave some element of crunch in an otherwise soft, chewy dish.
Interesting interiors (hey, a chandelier!), nice art pieces, good music and a decent amount of seating for customers.
Check out their website at www.sundaymarket.sg. I really love their branding, simple website & marketing images from posters to Facebook images. Will return for sure. :)
