The Assembly Ground Cafe @ The Cathay

Checked out this rather new cafe located at The Cathay during one of August's Saturdates (i.e. Saturday + Date). Called the Assembly Ground Cafe, it is not to be confused with Assembly Coffee which is located at Evans Road.

I fell in love with the cafe almost immediately after I was seated because the cafe had a great playlist with all my favourite indie songs. You can say I'm already biased towards them, but that's alright with me. :)

Spacious with a high-ceiling, not overly noisy or rowdy (Though dependent on the crowd, the high-ceiling helps... a lot), awesome playlist, great decor/wall designs and decently-spaced seating. Slightly pricey but worth the price if you're looking for an easy location to meet-up with friends. Located in town, none of your friends will have trouble getting there via public transport/car and/or looking for parking since there are many parking options available and it's just a matter of um, how much walking you have to do, haha.

Great clear-cut menu and nice rugged look of brown grainy paper. These menus always look a lot prettier in terms of style, but generally are not very durable because they bend (with bend-marks) and absorb food oils and all that. One key area for improvement would be the font size... As a person in my twenties, I struggled a little in trying to see the prices, so what more for someone twice my age? Haha.

Eggs Zoey S$17.00

So here's my dish. Loved it even though I thought the pricing was a bit steep - it's still cheaper than a similar favourite of mine (I think it was called "Norwegian"!) at Wild Honey.

Popcorn Chicken S$9.00

Rosti Omelette S$14.50

No to pre-cut sausages, but the rosti was decent enough.

I would consider coming to such a place to read a book by myself with a cup of iced coffee. I would.

And there, total damage $40.50.

  1. I tried the coffee it was not up to expectation. The fragrance is lacking and the acidity overrides your mouth almost immediately.

    1. Hi Tony! Haha I'm not picky with coffee because I've always found my Nescafe 3-in-1 sufficient for me :P I know you're a big, big coffee fan!
